in response to debbie5ply... We all feel that way from time to time. Helpless, frustrated, angry, depressed... Sometimes we get so angry because things do not work out the way we think they should. Sometimes we wonder how much more can we take? How much more do we have to sacrifice just to get by?But you cannot give up.
Get angry, vent, and get moving.
ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE.
here's what I would suggest:
From what I read of your post, your biggest concern is transportation. The nearest pharmacy is 3 miles! So you are in a pretty rural area. Rather than trying to get to your doctors and appointments on a regular basis - without dependable transportation - why not consider re-locating yourself so you are closer to these facilities?
Since you are already receiving disability - you may qualify for subsidized housing. Subsidized housing is based on your income, therefore you would only pay a portion of what you normally pay. Most times they are hanicapped accessible and near public transportation and other necessary facilities. The drawback? The waiting list. In some cases, it can take a very long time to get into these places - others, not so much. But you won't know unless you ask!
Another option are senior apartments - these are apartments designed just for senior living. Some provide assisted living, others are independent. Some take govt subsidizing , other do not. Some take residents as young as 50, others, you have to be older - so you would have to do some checking. Most do have the same features (or more) that govt subsidized housing has. Again, there may be a waiting list.
Start with HUD- they may be better able to assist you in your search should you choose to go this route.
Also check with the Maine Dept of aging - for more information and resources
here you can search for assisted living facilities in your area - although you may not be ready for that option, you can see what is available and what may/maynot be suitable for your needs.
here you can check other govt programs to see what you may qualify for and what is available to you
I also have links to other nonprofit organizations around the country on my home page that may be more suitable to what you are looking for.
We all wish someone would drop a sack of cash in our laps. Unfortunately, that rarely happens. My questions to you is: even if the car were fixed for now, would that prevent future problems? WE are all looking for an immediate fix, but sometimes the short term answer doesn't solve the long term problem. Its kind of like putting a bandaid on a broken leg - not really effective is it? If you can find the source of the problem, and a workable, permanent solution, you might just be happier in the long run.
I hope this has been helpful and I do hope you find the solution to your needs.
